i’m going to be a dad
I wasn’t really sure how I was going to announce this grand, splendid, and joyous news to everyone. Of course it was going to always be announced through this very website. But I thought that maybe some cleverly written blog post that ever-so-subtly dropped the hint would be fun for my readership. As I sat down to actually write said blog, the words escaped me. And my mind started to wander off to other topics, like getting ready to have a baby in the house, and all the books I am going to have to read, and all of the things that I should be doing to prepare. Focus. Write witty things. <mind wanders again>
And since it is impossible to maintain a steady stream of thought right now, I figured I just come out and say it. I’m going to be a dad. And Suzy is going to be a mom. And collectively we will be parents of a child (sex to be determined). And we will do our best to raise this child, even though I feel like I am still a kid myself.
In the meantime, pregnancy is going well. Being the ever supportive husband, I’ve gained many sympathy pounds so that Suzy doesn’t feel like she’s in this alone in this. Yup, I’m super-awesome in my supportiveness.
Since we don’t know what the sex of the baby is, and we quickly got tired of referring to it as “it“, we decided to come-up with a place holder name. After tossing a few boy/girl-neutral names around, we settled on Gizmo. You know, from the movie Gremlins. Don’t feed it after midnight. And never get it wet. I’m sure our little Gizmo will be twice as cute though – and hopefully less hairy. I’ve added a new “gizmo” category in the blog so the many future posts (and hopefully the live-blog of the birth) will be here-to-fore categorized as such.
How’s that for a randomly slapped together entry? Well, who can blame me – my mind is wandering and I’m going to be a dad!

Yeah! But wait, didn’t I tell you NOT to have children? Ha…. I am trying to remember the exact conversation and why it was so funny, but my mind is ALSO wandering and I can’t quite recall it. Anyway, congratulations. This is going to be a fun ride for both of you. Take care of yourselves, be kind to yourselves and really pay attention to this precious time. It never comes back again (that is, pregnancy comes back, but waiting for your first child when you don’t have any yet never returns). Oh yes, and go see a lot of movies, like in the actual theater. Love!

Yay for baby Gizmo! You know the sex is already determined, you two just haven’t been enlightened yet
BTW, I love that name. And just so you don’t get freaked out, and you may read this in a book, but Gizmo may come out pretty hairy. But not to worry, the hair goes away in the first couple weeks.

Wow! This is very exciting news. We’re trying to figure out dates to anticipate when we might meet the new little great niece/nephew. The time goes awfully fast . . . Kirstin was just born yesterday!
